The Teeball Experience

This past week Nate and Ben embarked on a new adventure... they played Teeball! It wasn't a league, but still an organized group that met four evenings this week for the kids to practice and play Teeball. The boys have never been in a team sport before so we were excited for them to sign up and try it out! And they did SO well! Both of them thoroughly enjoyed themselves and just had a ball (pardon the pun) playing the game. It was a horribly bad week for our schedule as we had numerous other things going on in the evenings, but we were still glad the boys were able to participate. Each evening they excitedly got ready - putting on their ballcaps, tennis shoes, and Teeball gloves. At practice, they were put on different teams, which didn't phase them a bit. And for our boys, that was a big achievement!

Last night, the final night of practice, the boys came home dirty and tired. They'd had a good night of playing, but were just wiped out. And for some reason, I saw Ben sitting on the shoe bench taking off his shoes, and he had this very "mature" look to him. I've seen this in him numerous other times - kind of like I can almost see what he's going to look like as a teenager - but this particular night it wasn't a fleeting look. It was this constant appearance of an older boy. And it tugged at my heartstrings. I'm sure there will be many more nights of dirty and tired boys coming home from practice of some sort. And growing up before my very eyes.
